Those dry, cold days of winter are here and our hair and skin are already showing signs of damage. We typically take action to prevent dry skin during the cold months, but many of us never think to treat our hair. The cold, dry winter air and heated indoor air causes our hair to become dry and brittle. It’s then prone to break, becoming very damaged. We have a list of things you can do to prevent your hair from becoming damaged this winter.
Take Lukewarm Showers
I know, on a cold day it’s very easy to keep turning that heat up when in the shower. It’s doing more harm than good though. Your hot showers are drying out your hair and skin. Try to take a shorter shower and keep the temperature lukewarm. Afterwards, comb with a wide-tooth comb to prevent further damage. You may also want to apply a leave-in conditioner after your shower to help moisturize your hair.
Skip the ’poo
You may want to consider skipping the shampoo a few days a week. Everyone’s hair is different, you may be able to skip more days than others or less. You'll still want to condition your hair the day you skip the shampoo. Or if you prefer, use a dry shampoo.
Deep Conditioner Treatment
Schedule a deep conditioner treatment at Meraki to help add moisture back to your hair. It’s essential to those with color-treated hair or hair types that are prone to become frizzy and dry. Your hair type and how you style your hair (if you straighten or blow dry) will determine how often you should have your hair deep conditioned. Your stylist will make a recommendation based on your hair needs.
Be sure to keep your hair healthy with regular trims, you’ll get rid of split ends which will reduce hair breakage. We carry only the best products on the market in our salon. We’d love to help educate you in which products are best for your hair type.
