Make Your Hair a Priority this New Year

New Year’s resolutions – we all make them, but few of us actually see them through. That’s because many of us set ourselves up for failure by making unrealistic goals. Instead of committing to working out every single day, losing 50+ pounds by spring, or any other resolution that may be unobtainable, decide on small, achievable goals that can make a big impact on your hair.

Setting goals to improve the health and manageability of your hair will help you with your overall confidence, self-esteem, and wellbeing. At Meraki Salon, we can help you with these easy-to-follow steps to soft, shiny, voluminous hair.

Healthy diet, healthy hair. This is where those baby steps come in. Instead of swearing off sugar completely, or other goals that you won’t be able to keep long-term, work at eating more well-balanced meals and healthy snacks. When our body lacks the key nutrients and vitamins it needs to efficiently keep your body healthy, it steals those nutrients from your hair, skin, and nails. Taking steps to improve your diet can help to bring moisture and nourishment back into your hair for healthy, manageable, shiny hair.

Use a weekly conditioner. Commit to one day a week. Just a single day a week using a deep conditioner such as Paul Mitchell’s Awapuhi Wild Ginger Repair Keratin Intensive Treatment can deliver deep hydration and protection to repair and rebuild your hair.

Use hair products for the season. It’s easy for us to find haircare products we love and then just stick with them all year long. Although it’s typical for your hair to be dry, brittle, and dull during the winter, using those same products in the summer may be weighing down your hair. Let your Meraki stylist recommend the best hair care products for you depending on the season as well as your hair type.

Visit your stylist routinely. Keeping a good hair routine, including regular trims with your stylist, will keep split ends at bay and help to stop breakage on those strands. Not only will your stylist assess your hair at each visit, but they will also address any hair concerns and recommend our in-salon deep conditioning treatments that you may need to revitalize and promote healthy hair.

Go au natural. Sometimes it’s good to just let your hair down and let it be. When you can, resist styling tools, tight ponytails, and constantly messing with or touching your hair. Harsh brushing, pulling it tightly back, and pulling at it when it’s wet can all cause breakage and even thinning of the hair. Excess heat and chemical processing can lead to dry, brittle, weak hair.

Hydrate daily. It may sound easy, but drinking enough water every day can seem like a chore. Rise to the challenge and make a goal to drink as much water as you can each day. Staying hydrated will add moisture back into your hair – moisture that is lost by styling, dry winter air, and other environmental factors.
